Finally dropped my headliner to wire up my basket lights after almost 5 years of having lights on the roof that weren’t wired up.....
In the process I also tore the dash apart to replace my leaky AC evap core in hopes of finally getting my AC working again ( I also replaced the blower motor and heater core for good measure) . Now everything in the AC system is new.
I used the garage door opener cubby in my new overhead console as a convenient place to hide my relays, which cut down on the amount of wiring a tremendous amount.
In the process I refinished my headliner and got the console mounted.
With that done, I decided to modify my spare carrier so it followed the van’s body better.
With that all done I took her in to get the AC charged up.
Charging went off without a hitch, but now I have an electronic issue so it won’t engage via the button on the dash. They can however engage it through the computer by turning the solenoid on, so I said F-it and am letting the shop figure it out.

That is the most deliciously plaid headliner I have ever seen. Amazing! Good work! Fantastic! Superb!

I wanted to go with a factory color, couldn’t find anything that matched, so me and the daughter decided plaid was the next best thing.
I really love it. It’s not perfect, but for the first time ever doing a headliner, I’m happy with the result.

She's gone plaid!

It fits the aesthetic of the van. I love your choice!

While I like the choice of plaid, the off-center alignment is killing me!
Using the garage door opener for the light relays was a good idea. Have you considered an interrupter switch for turning them on? Just press once on the garage door opener and they come on, press again to turn off!

And then you had breakfast. Clearly you are extremely familiar with your vans, but I’m still amazed at how much you get done in such a short period of time.
I’ll also salute the plaid. The E28 does need a new headliner, and I certainly had not thought of plaid until now .

Every bit of this is top-notch

I wish I had your energy. I really need to get out there and run the wiring for the backup camera and modify the speaker wiring in the back of my van, but it’s been so damn hot (or rainy) that I can’t even be bothered to go outside. Having to do all of my work in the street doesn’t help things either.

I hadn’t thought of that, but it would have been a great idea!
The alignment of the material is a 2-fold problem. Part one is my oldest daughter was helping, she though she had it even when it wasn’t. Part two is there was simply no way to get the material centered with how it cutoff.
It isn’t perfect, but then again, I’ve never redone a headliner, so........

In my defense I was on voluntary layoff for the last 2-weeks and this project ate up most of that.

Sorry to hear about the layoff, hope you can get back to work soon.
Honestly, reading posts like yours give me confidence to tackle my own to-do list.

I am quite impressed that the fabric looks nice and smooth, especially since it’s not really meant to be used that way.
Oldest daughters, although they think they know everything, often do not. My daughter is quite handy with a sewing machine, so when she broke out the machine a few weeks ago, I asked her to patch up a couple of old pairs of shorts. What I had in mind is not what I received. :/

That headliner is fantastic, a great departure from the normal solid color headliner material

Damn, that headliner looks sharp AF. Nice work.

Long Voyager brakes for nobody.
Unless it's a first-gen Mopar van

I’m sorry but it has been over 100 F outside for days now. Reading your A/C is broke while staring at a massive plaid blanket sewn to your roof about made me sick.

Exactly.

It was just our usual week or two slow spurt, so I’m back this week.

Eh, I haven’t had AC in it for about a decade now, I’m used to it. Neither my van nor the car have had AC for a long time, you get used to it.
